Project Opportunities
The Lough Ree Greenway creates an opportunity for greater social inclusion and community cohesion by providing connectivity for towns and rural communities thereby improving access to services, jobs, and social activities. It has the potential to foster stronger community ties by providing shared public spaces for local residents and visitors alike. By offering a safe space for all, the Greenway will promote inclusivity and help build a more cohesive, connected community in the Roscommon, Westmeath and Longford area.
Key Considerations
In identifying route corridor options, the project team have considered a number of important features in the study area, including environmental constraints, archaeological features, hydrological and hydrogeological constraints, tourist destinations, and connections to other greenways and active travel routes. Feedback from the first public consultation was extremely useful and helped identify constraints and opportunities within the study area. Suggestions and local information provided by the public contributed to the development of the route corridor options.
